Girl Leadership At Its Best!
Girl Leadership is an essential element of the Mackinac program. Scouts develop such leadership skills as critical thinking and decision making, delegation, organization, and communication. Maturity, leadership, merit, attitude, self-control, experience, activeness in Scouts, recommendations from fellow Scouts and leaders, observations in-town and on the Island, references and personal interviews are all taken into account when selecting Junior Leadership. As a service oriented organization, there are several opportunities for scouts to demonstrate their leadership potential. Court of Honor meetings are held in-town for current leadership to prepare for general meetings and develop training activities. In addition, two leadership workshops are scheduled on the Island to teach leadership skills and help to prepare Scouts for leadership positions both within the Mackinac program as well as the Scouts' individual lives. In order to apply for a leadership position, Scouts must fulfill specific requirements and schedule an interview.
